This section is for courses that primarily focus on the computer-based format. In addition to solo games, multiplayer, MMO, MMORPG, MUSH, MUD, it also includes Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality, including desktop, console, mobile, and web platforms.

This program provides a brief background on Computer-based Role-Playing Gaming and listing of the other 3 RPG formats, followed by hands-on experience participating in several short solo and multi-player computer-based role-playing game sessions, wrapping up with a summary of the experience and a short summary of the benefits from moderated regular participation in CRPG and any caveats.

Post-training test: Yes (multiple-choice, fill in the blank, matching).  Require 90%+ test score to receive certificate.

Training Certification Received: Computer-based Role-Playing Gaming Level 1 (CRPG-1). Certificate is valid for 5 years, or can be renewed with CEUs.

Details: This program is available to laypersons and established care professionals.

This program includes:

  • Brief history and background of Role-Playing Gaming, and short explanation of all 4 RPG formats, and the many variants of computer-based styles (half hour).
  • Hands-on participation in several short computer-based sessions as a player, using pre-generated characters in both solo and multiplayer settings (2 hours).
  • Summary of the experience, and short summary of research indicating the benefits from regular participation in CRPG, and any caveats (half hour).


Training includes introductory interactive participation in 1 RPG format: 

  • Computer-based role-playing games (CRPG), solo and multi-player.
